WASHINGTON - Today, Republican Study Committee (RSC) Chairman Mark Walker (NC-06) presented a letter to Speaker Paul Ryan offering 19 policy solutions to gain conservative support for a package to raise the debt ceiling. The changes could be incorporated into the current deal before Congress or the package to raise the debt ceiling in December 2017 in order to gain conservative votes.

In the letter, the RSC Steering Committee also announced its opposition to the deal reached yesterday on the debt limit.

"Republicans campaigned on changing the status quo, and Americans elected us based on that message," said Walker. "These proposed reforms present a way forward to make right on the promise and pass bills that reflect that Republicans control Congress and the White House."

The letter is the result of a month-long process of gathering ideas from the 155+ members of the RSC. Throughout the past several months several of these policy ideas were shared at the member and staff level with Congressional Leadership.

Policy proposals in the letter include include measures to address America's $20 trillion debt that already passed the full House of Representatives such as Medicaid work requirements or a repeal of Obamacare. It also includes measures to make right on the President's promise to "drain the swamp."
