AHCA Marks Important Step Toward Repealing and Replacing Obamacare

May 4, 2017

WASHINGTON – In response to the passage of the American Health Care Reform Act (AHCA), Republican Study Committee (RSC) Chairman Mark Walker (R-N.C.) released the following statement:

"Since Obamacare's implementation, Americans have lost access to their doctors and seen their health care costs soar with fewer health insurance options. Today's vote represents an important step in the process of honoring our commitment to repeal and replace Obamacare with market-oriented, consumer-centered reforms.

"Since January, members of the Republican Study Committee have worked with the White House and additional congressional leaders to improve the bill. Today's legislation includes conservative policies advocated by the Republican Study Committee, including providing states with the option to block grant their Medicaid funds, allowing states to implement work requirements for able-bodied Medicaid recipients and protecting the unborn.

"We understand the limitations of the reconciliation process for a full repeal of Obamacare, but remain committed to additional reforms and improving the health care system for all Americans.

"Finally, as the Senate considers this bill, conservatives will remain vigilant and watch closely to ensure that any changes do not undermine our conservative priorities, including protecting the unborn."
